Starting from now until April 1st, I won’t be buying any clothes, shoes, jewelry or any other fashion related items. I will only wear the items currently in my wardrobe and donate/sell anything I haven’t worn or thought about in the last 6 months.

Since deciding to take on this challenge, I thought it would be best if I write out my goals to hold myself accountable. This is a much needed cleanse as I noticed how many things I accumulated this fall that I haven’t even worn yet. It’s time for me to change my bad habits of impulse buying and unnecessary spending. My mentality has drastically evolved over the past few years, so this really isn’t as shocking for me to do as I am making it seem. I’ve done things that I never could see myself doing before so I know I have the power in me to control my spending. In 2016, I gave up meat and started a plant based diet. In 2017, I started meditating, reading and working on my physical fitness.

I’m stating it now that 2018 is going to be the year that I get a handle on my spending habits and change my relationship to material possessions.

I know this is going to be a tough process, but in order to make those lifestyle changes I have to start now when I feel it’s affecting me the most. I’ve seeing a lot of women on social media taking on this challenge too so I know I’m not the only with a problem, lol. Do you ever think about how unhealthy (mentally and of course financially) it is to spend hundreds of dollars season after season to keep up with trends? Sometimes I get so obsessed with an item that I get distracted from more important things things in my life. I end up impulsively buying clothes and never up wear them because I forget or find out I don’t really like it as much as I thought I did.

Also, it’s a sad fact that fast fashion companies pay their workers little to nothing, while they work tirelessly in unsafe conditions and I just don’t want to be a part of this cycle anymore. It just doesn’t make me feel good thinking about what someone had to endure for me to wear a piece of clothing that has no purpose and that I will donate or get tired of eventually.

This is why I need this challenge. Not only will this be good for my soul, conscious and bank account, I’ll be able to focus on the other aspects of my life that are important to me right now. I hope to learn how to be more mindful with my purchases instead of impulsive and change the way I view my needs vs. my wants.

2. Tailor Clothes

This a great opportunity to spend extra money on getting key pieces tailored so you’re more likely to wear them instead of buying new things.

3.Donate or sell

Old clothes to narrow down your current personal style.

4.Save Money

Set aside money in your savings account for after the challenge.

5.Log off

Log off social media as to not tempt you.
